Blogs and site transfer

Postby Tom » 25 Mar 2010, 21:44

It's been a while since I have made much of a contribution here. Indeed, I haven't really done too many things since Ben handed the site over but this will hopefully change now. The reason for the hold up was there were several complications in the process of transferring the website hosting and domain over. I am pleased to announce now though that this is all fine and everything is ready to go. I'd like to thank both Dan and Ben for making the transfer possible.

So where do we go from here? I'm very interested to know what you guys think. If there are things you want here, things you think we should change etc, then please let us know. Simply finding this website made such a difference to my life and my SED and I want to make it work in the same way for as many people as possible. I have a couple of ideas myself and one addition to the forum has already been made. You will notice if you see the top right of the forum there are two new links. Clicking "Blogs" will take you to the main blogs page. Each and every user here can create their own simple blog about their experiences with SED. I am a firm believer that the best way to beat SED is support from other people and a positive attitude. After finding this place my views changed and I made the decision to beat this disorder. I will be using my blog to share this experience with everyone as it happens and I would encourage others to share their stories as well but also to comment and give support to other people. Knowing that there are people in your position who are there to simply listen and offer advice is quite simply uplifting. Together we can hopefully all make progress.

If you have any suggestions or comments then please do post them here. Ideas I am thinking of right now are:

1. Food of the week - A food is suggested each week and everyone does their best to go out and try it. I realise this is not likely to happen for some people at all but whatever you can do, whether it be simply holding the food all the way to tasting some will be progress. We're all in the same boat here and if we work together and share experiences we might learn from eachother.

2. Better help and advice for parents. Right now it seems a common topic goes like this:

"I am a parent and my kid won't eat anything. I've taken him/her to many doctor's and they just say they are fussy and will grow out of it. What can I do?"

I am no expert in this area and I don't have children but I think that we need some sort of resource, guide or FAQ with detailed information about what parents can do, where to go for help and ideas that have worked for others. This may take time but I feel many people come here looking for help and don't get what they want.

I hope everything goes well for everyone in the future and together we all make progress. Please do post replies, I want to know what everyone thinks.

The blogs feature looks really useful, nice job.

This is an excellent idea, and I would take part in it if it goes ahead. My suggestion would be to have multiple foods to try each week, covering different types of food. We should try to make it so most people have at least one food on the list they feel capable of trying.

2. Better help and advice for parents.

Yeah maybe we could go through those threads and make a summary of all the advice given, and then have a separate place for professional advice with references to books/websites.

-Edit-
I've just written a blog entry on the subject here: http://www.fussy-eaters.com/blog/mat/how_not_to_get_your_child_to_eat_b-5.html
